Teams Student Licenses

Teams licenses are now available to students, so they will no longer need to log in as Guests. You can require them to login with their email address and password, so you can see their full name, and they cannot pose as another student or give a fake name.

Click here for directions on how your students should join the meeting. It is basically the same, except where they used to type their name in, they now click sign in. This starts at step 5.

In order for the new settings to apply, you must create a new meeting link in your Canvas course. You can click here for directions on how to do that.

Please be sure to pay close attention Step 8, the “Meeting Options”. It is always a good idea to set “Who can bypass the lobby” to “Only me” so that the students cannot be in the meeting without you.

Benefits of having the students sign in using their email address

  • See students entire name; no aliases
  • Students cannot add or remove anyone from the meeting
  • Students cannot mute anyone in the meeting
  • The whiteboard now works – and is interactive for both the teacher and the students!
  • Students can only present if the teacher specifically gives them permission to do so

Exiting Meetings

When your class is over, you should not just click “Leave”. This could leave the chat open for your students to continue talking. You need to click on the arrow, and click “End meeting”

It will then ask “End the meeting?”

By clicking End here, it will remove all of your students from the meeting, and as long as you have set up your meeting so they cannot bypass the lobby, your students will not be able to re-enter the meeting without you there.

FINAL NOTE

If you are creating a Team for your colleagues, please make sure you set the privacy to Private. If you set it to public, students will be able to join your team.
